Quilted Hammocks: The Ultimate In Backyard Comfort
If you have ever been in a hammock chances are you enjoyed it. Chances are that even if it was a rope hammock which might have had elements that made it less than luxuriously comfortable you liked being in the open air lying and relaxing with nature surrounding you.
However, maybe you did notice the knots on that rope hammock. Or maybe it was a little bit uncomfortably cool on your back. Or perhaps, even with a fabric hammock it simply felt hard. Well, quilted hammocks can answer nearly any of these gripes you might have about swinging in a hammock.
A quilted hammock is just what it sounds like: a hammock that, rather than being made of rope, other netting, or fabric, is made with a quilted texture. It is almost like having a hammock with a quilt stretched over it, except much more comfortable because it will not bunch and fold over in places because it IS the hammock.
Because of their extra padding, quilted hammocks are one of the most comfortable types of hammocks you can lay on. They feel soft and more cushioned than other hammocks, giving you an increased level of relaxation.
Another major benefit of a quilted hammock is that they are quite cozy. Besides the fact that their softer nature makes it easier to sink into, it is also warmer. This means you won’t have the breeze at your back while you rest. And on much cooler days you can take out a blanket to cover yourself in and be truly warm and cozy, like taking your bed outside.
Of course as an outdoor hammock, the quilted variety might run into some problems. The most obvious of these is the fact that it will take longer to dry once it has been rained on. Even the buildup of dew can take longer to dry.
Fortunately there are fabrics like Sunbrella that take the drying time way down. They are water resistant and dry quickly. Still, there is no question that the additional layers on a quilted hammock will stay wet longer.
Another negative of this type of hammock is the converse of the plus of its coziness. On hot summer days you want to lay on something that will allow the maximum air circulation so you can stay cool. A quilted hammock will definitely not be your top choice.
Of course there are negatives to nearly every product, but if you live in a cooler climate and still want to enjoy the comfort and relaxation that you can only find in swinging in a hammock out of doors, a quilted one will be just the thing for you. When the weather gets really cold and wet you can simply take down the hammock for use on a warmer day.
